2017 “Think On These Things” Challenge
WHATEVER IS:
Monday-TRUE
Tuesday-NOBLE
Wednesday-RIGHT
Thursday-PURE
Friday-LOVELY
Saturday-ADMIRABLE
Sunday- Excellent or PraiseWorthy
God’s Word floors me sometimes.
Let me ask you a question: How’s your thought life?
Really.
Yeah, me too.
I would love to say that I think good thoughts all the time, but that just isn’t the truth… yet. 😉 I’m sure this will be a life-long journey, but I wanna get serious this year:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy— think about such things or think on these things.” (Bold and italicized is KJV, rest of the scripture is NIV)
Another version reads “dwell on these things”.
No matter which way we read it, the Word of God is telling us that our thoughts are to be purposefully decided by us. We are supposed to make our thoughts “rest” or “dwell” on the things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy.
And I don’t always do that, do you?
As I read this scripture recently, it occurred to me that if I just focused on ONE of those things a day, I’d cover my entire week with good and productive thoughts- pretty cool, huh? And if I did that for an entire year, I’d have 52 weeks of fruitful, productive thoughts in each of those “categories”. Wow! Can you imagine?! Our thoughts influence our actions y’all and I am ready for my thoughts to do some GOOD- in my own life and in the lives of others.
Which brings me to my challenge for the year- The “Think on These Things” Challenge
I made a journal page that I’m going to print every week and once a day, I am going to search for, record and think on the things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy; training my thoughts to think the way He wants me to think. I’m going to shut down the negative and destructive thoughts that are not true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy.
You know what I think will happen??? I think I am going to be happier, more peaceful and more joyful. I think I’m going to hear His Voice more because I won’t have the clutter of the world’s “junk” influencing my thought life.
It might be a thought, a scripture, a worship lyric, something beautiful that I find lovely, or someone or some work that I admire— but I’m going into 2017 LOOKING for it, because 2016 trapped me with some ugly thoughts that I just don’t want to go back to, that God doesn’t want me to go back to. And I’m betting that you probably have a few thoughts you’d like to leave behind in exchange for some true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy thoughts too.
