Praying for ourselves as wives, for our husbands and the marital relationship is one of the most important and effective things we can do to improve the quality of our marriage. God desires for us to live blessed and part of that blessing is to have a godly marriage that glorifies Him.

That is all the MORE reason to begin praying today for your marriage! Listen, I know it is hard, but let me share something awesome that God ministered to me back when I was a young wife:

We were in the beginning stages of our marriage and both my husband and I weren’t handling our conflicts in a mature, Christ-like manner. At one point, my husband stopped going to church and I really felt discouraged.

One day, as I often did, I began to complain to God about my husband and tell Him how unhappy I was with how things were going. Suddenly, I felt God speak to my heart and this is what He said: “Nicci, stop talking to me about your husband and begin praying FOR him instead. My word says that the PRAYER of a righteous (wo)man is effective, not the speech of her!”

Well, color me corrected! I repented right then and there and began to pray for my husband as God instructed. And you what? It worked!  God began to move in our marriage and fruitfulness began to blossom.

Through the years I have noticed that many wives also fall into the trap of talking about their marital problems instead of truly humbling themselves to pray for themselves and their husbands according to the Word. That why I was so excited when I heard about this book!

Mae blessed me with a digital copy of her new book a while back and I was blown away by the wisdom and anointing found in each section. In this 7-day journal experience, the author gets to the root of marital issues and guides us on how to pray effectively and with power for ourselves as wives and for our husbands.

Each section contains a teaching, a journal exercise, and an author-led prayer. And if you are serious about choosing to rekindle your fire in prayer for your marriage, DO NOT SKIP THE PRAYERS. They are lessons in and of themselves!

My favorite section is on making your ‘nevertheless statements’

What good is prayer if you don’t apply your faith? Using this exercise, you are able to work through how you currently feel about your marriage, which is validating, but also turn it into a faith-filled declaration for victory.

It is so important as believers to lay down our feelings at the feet of Christ and learn to believe God’s Word about our circumstances. Making Nevertheless declarations is a powerful way to do this!

I equally love the section about childhood trauma

How many of us have unknowingly carried childhood trauma into our relationships? I so appreciated that Mae addresses this important issue. Just this section alone has the potential to bring much healing if you allow it!

Don’t let the size fool you- this book is a gem for wives who want to see prayer results in their marriage. You will feel convicted and inspired, and most importantly, empowered to pray effectively over your husband and marriage!
