Welcome to week 2 of Fruitful Vine Woman’s Reflections Devotional- Heir of God! We’re looking intently into God’s Word to see who God says we are, allowing His Word to become our reflection. Last week, we saw that if we believe in Jesus Christ, we are God’s Child. This week, we are looking at Galatians 3:29 (we will get to it in just a minute) to see that we are an Heir of God.
First, let’s learn a bit about the man referenced in the scripture we are going to study, Abraham:
In Genesis 15, verses 4-6, God is making a significant and prophetic promise to the patriarch Abraham: “And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, ‘This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.’ Then He brought him outside and said, ‘Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.’ And He said to him, ‘So shall your descendants be.’ And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. …”
If you continue to read the account of Abraham’s life (And I highly recommend that you do!), you see that he and his wife Sarah only had one child together, so how is it that Abraham’s descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky?
Coming back to our focus scripture:
Galatians 3:29, “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
We now see that “Abraham’s Seed” are those who belong to Christ, those who believe!
Abraham is called the “Father of Faith” because he believed (affirmed, trusted in, relied on, remained steadfast to) what God said .
The Lord began His Plan for eternal salvation with Abraham by making him an Heir of God.
From Abraham to the birth of Christ, we see God moving throughout history to reconcile man, once again, unto HimSelf. It was by FAITH that he was considered righteous and inherited the promise from God.
Because of his faith so long ago, anyone who believes in Christ is automatically considered Abraham’s seed, his offspring in the faith!
Because we are his offspring, we become heirs with him in the promises of God– now THAT’S a good word!
The Greek word for “heir” in the New Testament is Strong’s 2818- kleronomos- it means simply, “Inheritor”, by implication, it means, possessor.
By faith, you are an Heir of God
When you believed in Christ, by faith, you became an inheritor of God and a possessor of His Kingdom. He has a RICH inheritance for you- and it is all explained in His Word. God always honors His Word, even a Word He spoke thousands of years ago! He is a promise-keeping God and we are the heirs of those promises!

To be an heir, means that you have POSITION dear one!
You’re not a lowly nobody, unseen and unheard. You are not common by any means when you believe in Christ. Knowing that identity helps me carry myself differently because, while I am not perfect, I know that it is important to do my best to represent the kingdom and the King in charge of it! You have such value in His eyes– You are an HEIR, an inheritor, a possessor of a kingdom that never fades. Hallelujah!
Pray with me today:
Father, by Your Grace you have granted me position in Your Kingdom and have made me an heir of your Promises, that I might bring glory to Your Name. Help me to live life as an heir of God, may I carry myself in a worthy manner, pleasing you with all that I do and say. In Jesus Name, Amen.
