Saving More by Stocking Up
The following items are usually for sale in September or even on clearance for really good deals!
Summer fun and summer themed items are on clearance so I usually look at what we might need for next Summer and buy accordingly.
Kiddies pools, BBQ tools, outdoor table cloths, picnic items, and gardening tools are also items I keep a look out for. Also look for sunscreen, bug sprays, charcoal, lighter fluid, etc because stores will want to move those items out as they prepare for fall and the holidays.
Soups, snacks and ready made meals are big this month because of Back to School.
I like to take advantage of certain items as long as I know they will keep well. Also watch for comfort food items to go on sale, like chili and baking ingredients. People always want to bake something when the weather cools down!
Now is the time to search the racks for summer apparel.
I try to buy 1 or two sizes up for the kids so that we will have items we need for next summer.
Cold and flu meds, sinus medicine usually go on sale as the cooler temps set in. Also vitamins.
I try to keep at least one bottle on hand for each person just in case we all come down with something and our natural remedies don’t cut it. I usually stock up on b vitamins, c vitamins and multi-vitamins for the family.
In-season produce.
The last of the summer bounty is being harvested right now and it’s a good time to stock up on produce and preserve what you can. I dehydrate a lot of things in my dehydrator for later use. I also freeze and home-can food when I am able to. This allows me to take advantage of great food deals at rock-bottom prices.
Labor Day Sales
If you’re in the market to buy furniture or appliances, many companies hold Labor Day Sales with great deals! Mattresses usually go on sale too.
Back to School Supplies
I love back to school sales. Not only do supplies go on sale but so does curriculum, books, school clothing, and shoes for kids! Arts and crafts stores usually have good deals too so don’t forget about them. I try to stock up on supplies for our homeschool and am always grateful for the savings.

These days, everyone needs to be saving more!
With rising prices (thank you inflation), these are some of the ways you can trim your grocery and household budget over time. By taking advantage of great monthly and seasonal deals in your area, you will also build a rotating stock of goods that you won’t run out of as quickly, adding to the security of your home and family.
Remember, this isn’t about HOARDING. If you don’t need an item on this list, don’t buy it “just because”. Stocking up in a responsible way for the benefit of your family should be an act of wisdom and never from a place of fear. The goal is to SAVE money and create a USABLE home inventory that will be a blessing for your household.
