One of my favorite things in homeschooling is the joy of witnessing a child’s “aha!” moment—the instant when a new concept clicks. One of the first things I teach in Preschool beyond letters and numbers are the days of the week because it’s such a foundational milestone that helps my kids understand our schedule as a family. (Which, in all honesty, is quite hectic at times!) That’s why I created the Days of the Week Wall Learning Pack to make this journey both engaging and enjoyable because I needed the kids to be able to look at the calendar and see what was going on for the day or to be able to refer to our calendar as they anticipated certain events.
Why Focus on the Days of the Week?
When my older 3 kids were younger, it became overwhelming to answer the same question multiple times. “What are we doing tomorrow?” “When is our playdate?” “How many days until ____???”
It was frustrating for all of us. That’s when it hit me that the boys needed to know how to read a calendar. Before that, they needed to know how many days were in a week and so forth. Understanding the days of the week helps children grasp the concept of time, sequence events, and establish routines. It’s a stepping stone toward organizational skills and time management, essential for their future academic and personal lives.
Back then, I just taught them first by having them learn the order of the days, but now, I use the learning pack because my kiddos need the visual element alongside memorizing and writing. Once the kids learned the days of the week, it was as simple as putting things on our weekly schedule for them to see and it relieved a lot of stress for all of us! Later, we moved on to the months of the year and using the calendar.

Benefits of Visual Learning Aids
Visual aids are powerful tools in early education. They enhance memory retention, cater to visual learners, and make abstract concepts more tangible. By displaying the days of the week prominently, children receive constant reinforcement, aiding in quicker and more effective learning.
Incorporating the Pack into Daily Life
Here are some simple ways to integrate the learning pack into your daily routine:
- Morning Rituals: Start the day by discussing the day’s name, its position in the week, and any special activities planned.
- Story Time Integration: Share stories or songs related to each day, creating associations that stick. (THIS EDUCATIONAL SONG IS A FAVORITE)
- Writing Practice: Use the worksheets as an educational break during the day.
